This includes Scope 1 emissions of about 394.2 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 (location-based) emissions of approximately 156.76 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of around 702.36 million kg CO2e. In the previous year, 2024, the company's total emissions were approximately 1.05 billion kg CO2e, comprising Scope 1 emissions of about 379.31 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 (location-based) emissions of approximately 159.30 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of around 613.86 million kg CO2e.

Severn Trent PLC is committed to achieving net-zero operational carbon emissions (Scope 1 and 2, and some outsourced Scope 3) by 2030. The company also aims to deliver 100% energy from renewable sources and operate a 100% electric fleet by 2030.

Through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Severn Trent PLC has committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 46.2% by FY2031 from a FY2020 base year. Additionally, they aim to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from the use of sold products by 13.5% within the same timeframe. The company also commits that 70% of its suppliers, by emissions covering purchased goods and services, capital goods, upstream transportation and distribution, and waste generated in operations, will have science-based targets by FY2026. These targets cover GHG emissions from company operations and are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C.
