Looking back, in 2024, the company's total GHG emissions were approximately 403.4 million kg CO2e, comprising Scope 1 emissions of about 4.7 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of approximately 1.0 million kg CO2e (market-based), and Scope 3 emissions of around 397.7 million kg CO2e. In 2023, Spark New Zealand reported Scope 1 emissions of approximately 2.7 million kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions of about 0.8 million kg CO2e (market-based); however, Scope 3 data was not available for this year.

Spark New Zealand has committed to significant climate action, with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated goals. The company aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 56% by FY2030 from a FY2020 base year, consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C. Additionally, Spark New Zealand commits that 70% of its suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services and capital goods will have science-based targets by FY2026.
