Key categories within Scope 3 emissions included 12.046 billion kg CO2e from use of sold products and 11.764 billion kg CO2e from purchased goods and services.

Looking back, in 2023, Sumitomo Electric's total Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions were approximately 31.7 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at 288 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 at 1.393 billion kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at 30.042 billion kg CO2e.

Sumitomo Electric has set ambitious climate commitments, with targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 30% by fiscal year 2030/31 from a fiscal year 2018/19 base year. Additionally, Sumitomo Electric is committed to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 15% by fiscal year 2030/31 from the same base year, including a 15% reduction in indirect use phase emissions. The company also aims to achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its manufacturing operations by 2050.
