Looking back to 2023, UnitedHealth Group's total emissions were approximately 18 billion kg CO2e, comprising roughly 114 million kg CO2e in Scope 1, about 418 million kg CO2e in market-based Scope 2, and approximately 17.5 billion kg CO2e in Scope 3.

UnitedHealth Group has set several climate commitments. The company aims to achieve a 60% reduction in its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 2030, using a 2023 base year, according to targets set by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Furthermore, UnitedHealth Group has committed to achieving net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050 and operational net-zero by 2035. The SBTi has validated that its Scope 1 and 2 targets align with a 1.5°C warming scenario.
