Vasakronan

Vasakronan, a lessor of other real estate property headquartered in Sweden, has reported significant progress in reducing its carbon emissions. In 2025, the company's total emissions were approximately 22,016,000 kg CO2e. This includes Scope 1 emissions of about 75,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions (market-based) of approximately 493,000 kg CO2e, and substantial Scope 3 emissions of around 21,348,000 kg CO2e. The primary contributors to Scope 3 emissions in 2025 were downstream leased assets (approximately 13,867,000 kg CO2e) and capital goods (approximately 5,707,000 kg CO2e).

The company's commitment to climate action is evident in its ambitious targets. Vasakronan has committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 90% by 2030, using 2016 as the base year. Furthermore, they aim for a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 2030, also from a 2016 baseline. This aligns with a 1.5°C pathway. Vasakronan also pledges to continue sourcing 100% renewable electricity annually through 2030.

Observing the trend, Vasakronan has made considerable reductions in its total emissions over the years. In 2017, total emissions were approximately 76,073,000 kg CO2e, dropping to about 46,770,000 kg CO2e in 2020 and further to 33,379,000 kg CO2e in 2024. These figures reflect a strategic focus on decarbonisation within the real estate sector. Vasakronan also previously had a target to reduce its total emissions per square metre (scopes 1, 2, and 3, excluding emissions from projects exceeding SEK 75 million) by 10% by 2023, with a base year of 2022. Since 2008, the company has also compensated for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as parts of Scope 3, through purchasing Gold Standard-certified Verified Emission Reductions.
