DTE Energy, a US-based company in the Electricity nec industry, reported Scope 1 emissions of approximately 23.3 billion kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions of about 78 million kg CO2e in 2024. In 2023, the company reported Scope 1 emissions of approximately 22.6 billion kg CO2e and Scope 3 emissions of about 115 million kg CO2e. Looking back to 2019, DTE Energy's total emissions were approximately 30.1 billion kg CO2e, comprising Scope 1 emissions of about 30.7 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 location-based emissions of roughly 1.7 billion kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of approximately 17.3 billion kg CO2e, including fuel and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, and business travel.

DTE Energy has set ambitious climate commitments. They aim for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across all scopes by 2050. Specifically for DTE Electric, they are targeting an 85% reduction in Scope 1 carbon emissions from 2005 levels by 2035 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 for electricity delivered to customers. For DTE Gas operations, they aim for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 from natural gas procured by suppliers and an 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2040. An accelerated carbon reduction plan includes ceasing coal use at Belle River Power Plant and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2028 (against 2021 levels) for Scope 1 and Scope 2. Past targets included a 32% reduction in Scope 1 CO2 emissions from 2005 levels by 2023, a 65% reduction by 2028, and a 90% reduction by 2040. In 2019, DTE accelerated its carbon reduction commitment to achieve a 32% reduction below 2005 levels by 2023, 50% by 2030, and 80% by 2040.
