LG Chem, a chemicals company headquartered in South Korea (KR), is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The company has set targets for carbon-neutral growth by 2030 and net-zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2050.

In terms of emissions, LG Chem reported the following for recent years:

• 2024: Total Scope 1 and 2 emissions were approximately 9,351,641,000 kg CO2e, comprising approximately 5,653,173,000 kg CO2e from Scope 1 and approximately 3,698,468,000 kg CO2e from Scope 2 (market-based). Scope 3 emissions were not disclosed for this year.
• 2023: Total Scope 1 and 2 emissions amounted to approximately 9,079,127,000 kg CO2e. This included approximately 5,188,120,000 kg CO2e for Scope 1 and approximately 3,891,007,000 kg CO2e for Scope 2 (market-based). Scope 3 emissions were not disclosed.
• 2022: Scope 1 and 2 emissions totalled approximately 9,561,674,000 kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at approximately 5,628,898,000 kg CO2e and Scope 2 (market-based) at approximately 3,932,776,000 kg CO2e. Scope 3 emissions were not disclosed.
• 2021: The company reported approximately 10,335,203,000 kg CO2e for Scope 1 and 2 combined. Scope 1 emissions were approximately 5,439,321,000 kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions were approximately 4,895,882,000 kg CO2e. Scope 3 emissions were not disclosed.
• 2020: LG Chem reported total Scope 1 and 2 emissions of approximately 9,520,581,000 kg CO2e. Scope 1 emissions were approximately 5,390,035,000 kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions were approximately 4,130,546,000 kg CO2e. Additionally, Scope 3 emissions totalled approximately 1,244,528,000 kg CO2e.

LG Chem has specific reduction targets: a 50% reduction in Scope 1 emissions from 2019 levels by 2050 and a 50% reduction in Scope 2 emissions from 2019 levels by 2050. The company also aims to achieve carbon-neutral growth by 2030. Furthermore, they plan to utilise 100% renewable energy for their overseas business sites by 2030 and for business sites in Korea by 2050.
