Your DitchCarbon profile: what it is and how to claim it
Your company already has a DitchCarbon profile, built from what you have published and from industry data. Claiming it is free, takes about 30 seconds, and lets you check and correct what your customer sees.
Why does my company have a DitchCarbon profile?
Because DitchCarbon holds profiles for over 2 million organisations so that the companies they supply can measure the emissions of what they buy. Your profile was built from what you have published (reports, disclosures, targets, any public footprint) and, where you have not published, from industry data for your sector, labelled as such. A customer that uses DitchCarbon sees that profile when it looks at you. The request you received asks you to check and correct it rather than fill in a form, which is the whole difference from a questionnaire: the first draft of your answer already exists.
What is on it?
Your company's emissions figures by scope and year, with the source document behind each published figure and a label on any figure that comes from industry data instead; your targets and commitments, drawn from public registers such as the SBTi's; the assurance level on each published report, where one exists; a score from 0 to 100 with the criteria shown; and a comparison with companies in your industry. Any of it that came from a published document links back to that document, so you can see exactly where a figure came from.
How do I claim it?
- Search for your company name together with "DitchCarbon", or follow the link in your customer's request.
- Click "Claim this profile".
- Verify with a business email address from your company's domain.
That is it: free, about 30 seconds. Any employee with a company email can claim, and ownership can be reassigned later to whoever ends up looking after it, usually someone in sustainability, procurement, finance or quality. If you cannot find your company, or the key details are wrong (name, country, industry, a parent company you no longer belong to), use the contact form on the claim page and the team will review it.
Your customer will accept: a claimed profile with the industry-data figures replaced by your own, even if your own are a first estimate. That single step moves you from an average to a named supplier in their numbers.
What can I do once it is claimed?
- Update your company and emissions information, and replace an industry-data figure with your own.
- Upload sustainability reports, certificates and other documents so the figures carry their source.
- Preview what customers see when they look at your profile.
- See recommendations for what would raise your score and reduce your emissions, and a comparison with peers.
- Add targets and forecast reductions so customers see your trajectory, not only your current figure.
- Answer other customers' questionnaires from the same data, so you answer once.
Does claiming it commit me to anything?
No. It gives you control of a page that exists either way. You choose what you add, you approve every data share, and a disclosure you make privately for one customer is never shared with another. The guide on who sees your data covers this in full.
What if my figures are an estimate?
Add them and say so. A first Scope 1 and 2 figure from your bills, labelled as estimated, is better for you than the industry average that sits there until you replace it, because the average does not move when you reduce and your own figure does. The Measure stage of this section covers producing that first figure in an afternoon with free tools.
Do this week: claim the profile, read what is on it, and replace the first figure you know to be wrong or out of date.
What should I do next?
How your score works and what moves it explains the number on the profile and the actions that change it. If you do not yet have a figure of your own, a first footprint from your bills and records is the place to get one.
