Ambuja Cements, an Indian company in the cement, lime, and plaster industry, has made significant commitments to reducing its carbon emissions. For the fiscal year 2024, Ambuja Cements reported Scope 1 emissions of approximately 15.3 billion kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions of about 589 million kg CO2e. Scope 3 emissions for the same period were approximately 4.7 billion kg CO2e. The total combined emissions across all scopes for FY2024 amounted to roughly 20.6 billion kg CO2e. In FY2023, the company reported Scope 1 emissions of approximately 20 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of around 715 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions totalling approximately 3.6 billion kg CO2e. The total combined emissions for FY2023 were approximately 24.3 billion kg CO2e. Ambuja Cements has established science-based net-zero targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These targets include commitments for both near-term (2030) and long-term (2050) reductions. Specifically, the company aims to cut Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 21% per ton of cementitious materials by 2030, based on a 2020 baseline. This includes a target reduction of 20% for Scope 1 emissions and 43% for Scope 2 emissions per ton. Looking further ahead, Ambuja Cements has set a long-term target to reduce gross Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 94% per ton of cementitious product by FY2050 from a FY2023 base year. Additionally, they aim to reduce all other absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% within the same timeframe. For Scope 3 emissions, the company commits to reducing those from purchased clinker and cement by 97% per ton by FY2050, and all other absolute Scope 3 emissions by 90%. Ambuja Cements also commits to reaching net-zero GHG emissions across its value chain by FY2050.
