Historical data shows Scope 1 and 2 emissions for fiscal year 2016 were approximately 5.73 billion kg CO2e.

Mitsui Chemicals's commitment to reducing emissions is further evidenced by specific targets, such as a stated aim to reduce domestic GHG emissions by 25.4% by fiscal year 2030, compared with fiscal year 2005 levels. The company also aims to reduce GHG emissions by 22% by fiscal 2016, compared with fiscal 2005 levels, primarily at six domestic manufacturing sites and 15 domestic consolidated subsidiaries.
