In 2024, SHI International Corp. reported total greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 944,000,000 kg CO2e. This total includes 1,360,000 kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions, 8,364,000 kg CO2e from Scope 2 emissions (market-based), and 935,330,000 kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions. The Scope 3 emissions are primarily driven by categories such as the use of sold products (440,773,000 kg CO2e) and employee commuting (7,018,000 kg CO2e).

SHI has set ambitious climate commitments, aiming for a 50% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, using 2023 as the baseline year. Additionally, the company plans to halve its Scope 3 emissions related to waste generated in operations and business travel within the same timeframe. Furthermore, SHI commits that 70% of its suppliers by spend will have science-based targets by 2029, and 13% of its customers by revenue will also have such targets.

In previous years, SHI achieved a 40% reduction in Scope 1 emissions intensity by 2020, surpassing its original target of 20% by 2025. The company is a member of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and has committed to net-zero emissions across all scopes by 2050.
