In 2023, Thorlabs, a company in the Computer and related services industry headquartered in the US, reported a total of approximately 585,972,000 kg CO2e in emissions. Thorlabs has established significant climate commitments aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company commits to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050. To support this overarching goal, Thorlabs has set the following targets:

• Long-Term Targets (by 2050):

  • A 90.0% reduction in absolute Scope 1 GHG emissions from a 2023 base year.
  • A 90.0% reduction in absolute Scope 2 GHG emissions from a 2023 base year.
  • A 90.0% reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from a 2023 base year.

• Near-Term Targets:

  • A 58.8% reduction in absolute Scope 1 GHG emissions by 2034 from a 2023 base year.
  • An increase in the active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 5.6% in 2023 to 100.0% by 2030.
  • A 35.0% reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 2034 from a 2023 base year, covering categories such as purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, downstream transportation and distribution, processing of sold products, use of sold products, and end-of-life treatment of sold products.

These targets are classified as 1.5°C aligned, indicating their consistency with the emissions reductions required to limit global warming to that level.
