LANXESS, a Germany-headquartered Chemicals company, reported its 2025 Scope 1 emissions as approximately 1.73 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions as approximately 203 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions as approximately 10.29 million kg CO2e. In 2024, the company's Scope 1 emissions were approximately 1.89 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions were approximately 380 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were approximately 10.37 million kg CO2e.

LANXESS has set several ambitious climate commitments. The company aims to achieve climate neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040 and net-zero for Scope 3 emissions by 2050.

Near-term targets, validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), include:

• A 42% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030, against a 2021 base year.
• A 25% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions by 2030, against a 2021 base year.

Looking further ahead, LANXESS aims for:

• A 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2040, against a 2021 base year.
• A 90% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions by 2050, against a 2021 base year. The remaining 10% will be offset through carbon removal investments.

Historically, LANXESS set a target to reduce CO2e emissions by 60% by the end of 2025 compared to 2004 levels (when the company was established with approximately 6.5 million metric tons of CO2e for Scope 1 and 2). They also aimed for a 75% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 against the same 2004 baseline. The company’s 2021 Scope 1 and 2 emissions amounted to approximately 2.59 million metric tons, representing a 60% reduction versus 2004.
