Looking ahead to 2025, ASTM projects Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services to be approximately 2.08 billion kg CO2e, alongside about 59.95 million kg CO2e in Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions. For 2024, projected Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services are approximately 2.23 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions around 76.96 million kg CO2e.

ASTM has set several ambitious climate commitments, with some targets cascaded from its parent organization, ASTM SpA. These include:

• Near-term Scope 1 and 2 Targets: ASTM commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 54% by 2030 from a 2020 base year. This target is considered consistent with a 1.5°C warming scenario by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Additionally, ASTM aims to reduce Scope 1 emissions by 30% and Scope 2 emissions by 30% from 2020 levels by 2030. Another target is to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 25% by 2030 from a 2020 base year, with interim reduction steps outlined.
• Near-term Scope 3 Target: ASTM commits to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 11.1% by 2030 from a 2021 base year. A separate target aims for a 13% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 2030, with a mid-point target of 9% in 2027.
• Long-term Net Zero Ambition: ASTM aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 for both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
• SBTi Approval: ASTM is the first European motorway operator to have science-based emission reduction objectives approved by the SBTi, committing to a 25% reduction in operational GHG emissions by 2030. This target specifically covers Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

Historically, in 2020, ASTM reported approximately 65.01 million kg CO2e in Scope 1 emissions and about 65.72 million kg CO2e in Scope 2 market-based emissions. In 2019, reported Scope 1 emissions were approximately 43.18 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 market-based emissions were about 50.33 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were approximately 778.82 million kg CO2e. For 2018, Scope 3 emissions were approximately 576.15 million kg CO2e, with Scope 1 and 2 emissions around 79.72 million kg CO2e.
