Spend allocation across products and organisation

DitchCarbon splits an organisation's yearly spend between named products with their own carbon footprints and the remainder calculated on an organisation emission factor, and shows what each contributes to the total.

Can I use product carbon footprints for part of my spend and averages for the rest?

Yes, on the same organisation. Allocate spend to named products and DitchCarbon uses each product's own published footprint, then calculates whatever is left on the organisation emission factor. Each line shows units, kgCO2e, spend and its share of the total, so the two methods are visible side by side.

Most spend does not arrive as one homogeneous number. A hardware supplier sells specific models, each with a published product carbon footprint, and also invoices for services and support that no footprint covers.

Allocation handles both in one place. The product lines take the product figure, the remainder takes the organisation factor, and the split is stated as a percentage so a reviewer can see how much of the number rests on the more specific method.

Spend is held per year, from 2007 forward, so a baseline can be rebuilt for any reporting year without re-entering anything. Allocations can be edited after the fact, and the change history travels with the figure.

Old way
One spend line, one sector average, product data left unused.
new way
Product footprints where they exist, averages only for the rest.
