Line item breakdown behind every figure
DitchCarbon opens any embodied emissions figure into the calculations behind it, one row per year, each naming the methodology, emission factor, spend and source that produced it.
Click any embodied emissions figure and it opens as its own calculations, one row per year. Each row names the methodology, the description it was calculated against, the quantity where there is one, the emission factor applied with its units, the spend, and the source the factor came from.
A supply chain total is only as useful as the questions it can answer. Most tools give a figure and a methodology label, which is enough to report and not enough to defend when somebody asks why this supplier, in this year, came out at this number.
Opening a figure shows the rows underneath it. Five calculations totalling a stated number, one per reporting year, each carrying the factor that was applied and the units it was expressed in, so a 2023 row on 5.21 kgCO2e per dollar reads differently from a 2020 row on 7.38. Where a calculation came from a quantity rather than spend, the quantity column carries it.
The source column is the part that matters for assurance. Every row can be followed back to where its factor came from, which is what turns a defensible total into a checkable one. It is the same provenance the audit workbook exports, available without leaving the page.
This sits alongside the method breakdown rather than replacing it. The method mix answers what share of a baseline is organisation, industry, product or activity data. This answers what happened on one specific line.
Common questions
Because factor sets carry a vintage and industries decarbonise. A 2023 row and a 2020 row for the same supplier can sit on different rates per dollar, and seeing both is the point. A total that hides the year by year rates cannot be checked.
No. The workbook is the whole account exported for an auditor to work through offline. This is one figure opened in place, on screen, while you are still looking at the supplier. The provenance is the same; the moment you need it is different.
